In addition to kicking off the alum application project today, the lake was busy with many visitors and observers. A group gathered Monday afternoon to participate in the Spring Lake Alum Demonstration Day. Participants were able to observe and learn more about the plan and goals for the lake restoration project. Dr. John Holz (HAB) provided an onsite lecture on the role of phosphorus in lakes, internal loading of phosphorus and benefits of alum in reducing phosphorus concentrations and improving water quality. Tadd Barrow (HAB) provided a thorough description of HAB’s barge and application technology that is required to conduct alum projects in a precise, effective and safe manner. Presenters included staff from the Prior Lake Spring Lake Watershed District, Barr Engineering and HAB. The turnout, interest and support of the project was impressive. HAB acknowledges the efforts by so many people to make this project a reality and feels fortunate to be a part of it. It was a great group with great questions!
