HAB spent Sunday afternoon and Monday morning of this week preparing equipment for the 2020 Spring Lake alum application project. This included assembly of the barge’s application boom, launching the barge into the lake, setting up on-shore storage tanks and confirming the delivery plan for the alum. The staging area was restricted to keep lake users at a safe distance from the alum storage and barge filling locations. Final calibrations of the barge computer system were conducted and a jar test of the alum dose was performed to confirm the intended effect of the alum. On Monday the tanks were filled from the delivery trucks we immediately began applying alum to the lake.
Tuesday and Wednesday also proved to be very productive and the HAB has already applied about 70,000 of the 249,000 gallons planned for the 2020 project. The lake and boat ramp will remain open for the duration of the project and of course those fish are safe to eat. We are looking forward to another full day of application tomorrow at beautiful Spring Lake!
