HAB has downloaded and processed the alum application data from the barge’s guidance and dose control computer system. The 2020 Spring Lake coverage map shows each individual application path that was recorded over the course of the Spring Lake application. We are extremely pleased with the precise application and uniform coverage of the application zones. There are no significant gaps in coverage, which is important to ensure that the sediments received the appropriate alum dose. Gaps in coverage can allow pockets of internal phosphorus loading to the water column and subsequent use by the algae for growth.
The map also shows the three different dose zones that were prescribed for the Spring Lake sediments. The areas shown in yellow received the lightest dose, light green is the intermediate dose and dark green is the highest dose. These colors represent the actual dose rates recorded on the application barge in real-time. The use of this customized technology allows HAB to ensure that the planned areas of the lake were covered without gaps and that each area received the correct dose. This comprehensive and complete coverage optimizes the longevity and effectiveness of the lake restoration project.
